First Ohr Somayach Yarchei Kallah brings online fans to our famous Beis Medrash

Thousands of viewers visit Ohr Somayach’s famous website each day, where they watch, hear and read shiurim from some of the world’s greatest Torah lecturers and kiruv professionals. But nothing can compare to the experience of learning Torah live, in the Ohr Somayach Yerushalayim campus.

This summer, the yeshiva held its first Yarchei Kallah, where forty American businessmen became Ohr Somayach talmidim for a week. The experience was exhilarating – and eye-opening.

“I listen to Rabbi Breitowitz’s shiurim every week, and after so much time, I felt like I know him,” one participant said. “But learning in person with him, with Harav Asher Weiss, and with the other Ohr Somayach rabbanim, was beyond anything I could imagine.”

Yarchei Kallah

The Ohr Somayach Yarchei Kallah took place on the sheloshim of Harav Avraham Rockmill, z”l, a longtime Ohr Somayach rebbe who taught and influenced countless Jews. The program was dedicated in his memory. The Yarchei Kallah is modeled after the original bearing its name, which brought Jews from around the world to the great Torah centers in Bavel for a short, intense session that would revitalize them, and ensure the continuity of Torah. Like their ancestors in Talmudic times, participants in this summer’s program put their businesses on hold, to experience full-day learning for four days.

Yarchei Kallah
The Yarchei Kallah took place in the magnificent newly-renovated Beis Medrash on the Ohr Somayach campus. Each day began with participants learning selected topics with chavrusahs, supported by comprehensive source sheets with marei mekomos; and culminated in an in-depth shiur by Rabbi Breitowitz and Rabbi Weiss, shlita.

A daily gourmet lunch featured a fascinating discussion about Torah perspectives on current events and fundamentals in Judaism, and guidance on living with faith and joy in these trying times.

As an added bonus, the Yarchei Kallah coincided with the summer Mentors Mission – and participants joined the mission for a barbecue at an army base, complete with uplifting singing and dancing with soldiers risking their lives for our nation. Many “yeshiva students for a week” chose to stay on for the Mentors Mission Shabbaton, which was, in the words of one, “an incredible, life-changing experience.”
